Cambodia’s exports of garments and footwear reached 4.1 billion USD in the first nine months of 2013, up 22 percent year on year, according to the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce.

The US remains Cambodia’s largest trade partner in these sectors, with a total trade value of 1.21 billion USD, followed by the EU, Japan and Canada.

The country’s garment and textile sector employs about 500,000 labourers, and accounts for 70-75 percent of total export turnover.

In 2012, Cambodia earned over 2.5 billion USD from exporting garments and textiles to the US and 1.21 billion USD from the EU, becoming one of the world’s biggest exporters in this sector.-VNA
