Cambodia publicly announced the establishment of Electoral Reform Commission, signed by Prime Minister Hun Sen, on January 23.

The establishment is based on an agreement that the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) reached at talks held in September last year.

The decision, signed by PM Sen on December 9 last year, notes operation regulations of the commission, collaborating in studying other countries’ electoral experiences and gathering law-makers’ recommendation on electoral reform among the deputy prime minister- minister of interior, minister of justice, secretaries of states, registered political parties, National Election Committee representatives, civil societies and related organisations.

The announcement of the establishment will clear the way for tackling the post-election political deadlock in Cambodia, appeasing all citizens ahead of the country’s future elections.-VNA
