The Cambodian media has hailed Vietnam ’s Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) Group for its participation in numerous community development activities in the remote northeastern province of Ratanakiri.

The Khmer-language newspapers Rasmei Kampuchea , Kampuchea Thmey and Koh Santepheap Daily with the largest circulations highlighted the HAGL Medical Hospital University ’s provision of free health check-up and treatment, and gifts for locals in Koun Mom district on June 1.

The activity kick-started Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group’s “Investment for community development” programme worth nearly 10 million USD in the province.

The Rasmei Kampuchea cited Khim Sorim, chief of the Sre Aung Chhrong village, Koun Mom district as saying that HAGL offers jobs, examines and treats his locals, as well as supplies them with daily necessities like rice, salt and sugar.

The Koh Santepheap Daily quoted the locals as saying that they are grateful to HAGL and hope that the group will help them escape poverty and diseases.

Along with the Kampuchea Thmey, the Daily also brought HAGL’s investment activities in the limelight. They cited HAGL General Director Nguyen Van Su as saying that since 2010, his group has poured 500 million USD into rubber and palm tree plantations in Ratanakiri.

On top of this, HAGL will also step up social activities like construction of roads, schools, medical stations, community houses and free vocation training there.

While visiting plantations and workers’ residential areas, the reporters were provided with full information about HAGL’s development orientations, as well as economic and social benefits that their projects brought to the locals.

On June 5-6, major television channels like Bayon TV and CNC aired documentaries about HAGL’s activities in the country, which are similar to what were reflected in printed newspapers.

Regarding Vietnamese investments in Cambodia , Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Yim Chhay Ly affirmed that the Vietnamese companies in Cambodia , including those engaged in rubber tree planting, have greatly contributed to Cambodia ’s national economic growth as well as social activities in the localities where they invested in.
