The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) of the UK's Economist Group has predicted that Cambodia’s rice export will be likely to drop in the time to come.

The forecast was made after the country’s efforts to join the Philippines’ 500,000-tonne-rice bidding package failed. The EIU also blamed lower quality and high prices for Cambodia’s failure.

The Cambodian government has so far given priority to promoting rice production and export with a goal of shipping one million tonnes in 2015.

It is an ambitious goal as the country’s total rice export volume in 2013 reached only 378,850 tonnes, said the EIU.-VNA
