Cambodia exported 387,061 tonnes of rice in 2014, increasing by 2 percent compared to the amount recorded in 2013, said the One Window Service for Rice Export Formality (SOW-REF).

According to Kim Savuth, Vice President of the Cambodia Rice Exporters Association (CREA), the slight growth stemmed from the tough competition with other exporters, especially Vietnam and Thailand.

To date, Cambodian companies shipped rice to 57 countries and territories in the world with five key markets including France, Poland, Malaysia, China, and the Netherlands.

Five years ago, the agriculture-driven country set a target of exporting 1 million tonnes of rice by 2015.

The target, however, could not be realised due to mill factories’ low capacity and limited finance, admitted Prime Minister Hun Sen in December, 2014.-VNA
