The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho will adopt drastic means to lure visitors both from home and abroad, especially to ecological tourist areas.

It was announced by Deputy Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Vo Thanh Thong at a workshop on the city’s tourism development in partnership with neighbouring localities in Can Tho on December 30.

William Sike, senior lecturer at PSB International College, advised the mulnicipal tourism sector to offer international-standard services with multilingual staff.

Can Tho recorded its highest number of tourists in 2008 when it hosted National Tourism Year, catering for some 900,000 visitors, up 17.9 percent from previous years.

As the fourth largest city in Vietnam, Can Tho is noted for its floating market where people sell and buy things on the river, as well as the bird gardens, Ninh Kieu port and picturesque rural canals.

The city is located 169 kilometres from Ho Chi Minh City. It offers a wide range of tropical fruits such as pomelo, longan, jackfruit, mango and durian.-VNA
