Hanoi (VNA) – Outgoing Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam David Devine was presented with the insignia “For Peace and Friendship among Nations” on August 10 in recognition of his contributions to enhancing the two countries’ relations.

Addressing the ceremony in Hanoi, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) Don Tuan Phong praised the ambassador’s efforts to boost cooperation between Vietnam and Canada across many fields, ranging from politics and diplomacy, to trade, economy, education and people-to-people exchange.

The diplomat has greatly contributed to increasing mutual understanding and strengthening solidarity, friendship and collaboration between the Vietnamese and Canadian people, he said.

Phong commended the ambassador’s charitable activities as well as his trips to Vietnamese localities in order to forge their affiliation with Canadian counterparts.

He hoped that David Devine, in any position, will make more contributions to consolidating and developing the bilateral relationship.

For his part, David Devine said the insignia manifests the time-honoured friendship and cooperation between the VUFO and the Canadian Embassy, expressing his belief that the two sides will continue to tighten people-to-people diplomacy between Vietnam and Canada.-VNA
