Capacity building to adapt to climate change

A seminar on capacity building to be able to adapt to climate change took place in the former imperial city of Hue on June 6 as part of the Mekong - Building Climate Resilient Asian Cities (M-BRACE) project.

Vice Chairman of Thua Thien- Hue Provincial People’s Committee and Head of the Climate Change Resilience Steering Committee Phan Ngoc Tho, said the seminar aims to define main issues caused by the impacts of climate change to Hue city.

The participants and specialists from the Institute for Social and Environmental Transition (ISET) from the US are expected to look at key areas for research to find solutions to implement the M-BRACE project, he said.

At the seminar, ISET experts introduced the project on Asian climate change resilience in Thua Thien-Hue province. They also explained the process of drawing up resilience plans for Hue City and Thua Thien-Hue province with the participation of local authorities, specialists in climate change projects and university lecturers.

According to recent assessments by leading international organisations and research on climate change by other countries, Vietnam is one of the five countries to be hard hit by climate change.

Hue City is one of the four Asian cities selected by ISET for the capacity building project.-VNA
