Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi sent a message of condolences to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem over the heavy loss of life and property caused by Typhoon Mirinae in Vietnam.

In the message on Nov. 9, FM Yang expressed his belief that people in the typhoon-hit areas, under the leadership of the Vietnamese government, would recover from the damage and resume production and normal life soon.

On Nov. 10, Tran Duc Mau, Vice Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, handed over 800 million VND donated by overseas Vietnamese to the central province of Quang Ngai.

Losses caused by rains and floods in Quang Ngai province in October and early November reached nearly 5 trillion VND, Dinh Thi Loan, Vice Chairman of the Quang Ngai province People’s Committee, said.

The death toll from typhoon Mirinae hit 116, the Central Steering Committee for Storm and Flood Prevention reported on November 7.

The central province of Phu Yen was hardest hit, losing 73 people to the disaster, followed by Binh Dinh with 22, and Khanh Hoa, 13./.
