China and Indonesia have signed several agreements on trade, infrastructure construction, space, taxation, and search and rescue at sea during Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s current official visit to China.

At the invitation of President Xi Jinping, Widodo will also attend the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), which takes place in southern Hainan province, during his tour from March 26-28.

The Indonesian President held talks with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Beijing on March 26 and they both decided to ink a five-year action plan for the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.

President Xi called on maintaining high-level exchanges as well as enhancing people-to-people and cultural exchanges.

Via the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the Silk Road Fund, China intends to assist Indonesia’s maritime infrastructure development, particularly its ship-building industry and the construction of ports, high speed railways, and airports, Xi declared.

Indonesia welcomes Chinese businessmen to take part in its infrastructure sector, the guest said, expressing his hope for bilateral trade reaching 150 billion USD by 2020 as targeted.

Widodo stated Indonesia and China should take on a bigger role in international affairs, demanding an end to violence and urging other countries to resolve disagreement through dialogues.-VNA
