China wants to cooperate further with Laos on law enforcement and security in the Mekong River basin, said Chinese security chief Meng Jianzhu.

Meng made this statement in a meeting with Sylavong Somkeo, Lao acting minister of public security, in Beijing on September 1.

He called on both sides to consolidate their collaboration in traditional areas of mutual cooperation, and expand into other fields such as anti-terror, illegal immigration and cyber crime.

For his part, Somkeo affirmed that Laos is willing to work with China to boost law enforcement and security cooperation.

Earlier, the Lao official held talks with Chinese State Councillor and Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun, during which the two parties signed a number of cooperative agreements.-VNA
