The Chinese navy’s fleet docked at Klang port, Malaysia to join a military exercise between the two countries beginning on September 17.

The manoeuvre, named “Peace and Friendship 2015,” is the first joint drill between the two sides’ armed forces, and also the largest bilateral military exercise between China and an ASEAN member nation.

The six-day activity includes exercises for joint escort, search and rescue, hijacked vessel rescue, weapon use practice, humanitarian aid and disaster relief.

As many as 1,160 soldiers, one missile-destroyer, one cruiser, one hospital-ship, four air-freighters, and three helicopters from China are participating in the drill.

The two sides will set up a joint headquarter to coordinate their forces for ground, sea and air exercises.-VNA
