The 18th Communist Party of China’s (CPC) Central Committee has elected Xi Jinping as its General Secretary.

The election was conducted during the first plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee that opened in Beijing on November 15.

At the session, Xi Jinping was also elected as Chairman of the CPC’s Central Military Commission. Fan Changlong and Xu Qiliang were appointed Vice Chairmen of the commission.

Xi Jinping, 59, is member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the 17th CPC Central Committee, Vice President and Vice Chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission, according to the state-run News Agency of China (Xinhua).

The new Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) elected Wang Qishan as its Secretary.

At the closing of CPC’s 18th National Congress, delegates elected the new leadership lineup for the CPC Central Committee, including 205 members and 171 alternate members.

At a press briefing after the closing of the first plenary session of the 18 th CPC, the newly-elected General Secretary, Xi Jinping, stressed that the CPC’s 18 th Congress had concluded successfully.-VNA
