The Central Committees of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Lao Front for National Construction jointly organised a conference on creating a friendly border line between the two countries in the Lao central province of Khammuone on November 3.

Alongside the two countries’ comprehensive and effective cooperation in a number of fields, the partnership between the two fronts was diversified, contributing to the consolidation and development of the Vietnam-Laos friendship, including encouraging residents in border areas to work together to maintain order along the border line, the conference heard.

The fronts’ guidelines were disseminated amongst the two countries’ residents to increase their awareness of the role of the special bilateral relations in jointly safeguarding the border.

Thanks to the close coordination between the two fronts and the two countries’ border guard forces, foreign ministries, veterans’ associations and women’s unions, security was maintained, while transborder crime and drug trafficking were effectively controlled.

Participants appreciated the efficient cooperation between localities along the border line.

They also pointed out a number of difficulties that need to be addressed and discussed a joint vision for the 2014-2016 period.-VNA
