Construction of Lai Chau hydro-electric power plant will start on Jan. 5 in Nam Hang commune, Muong Te district, according to the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN).

The plant will have three turbine groups with a combined capacity of 1,200 MW.

The project’s post-tax total investment is 35.7 trillion VND (over 1.78 billion USD), of which EVN contributed 20 percent.

EVN is responsible for construction of the project, resettlement for local inhabitants and project’s infrastructure facilities.

The first turbine of the plant is expected to generate electricity in 2016 while construction of the project is planned to complete in 2017./.
