Gemadept Corporation on October 22 launched a new container liner service at Gemadept DungQuat International Port in the central province of Quang Ngai.

According to the schedule, there will be one trip to and from Singapore per week as well as trips to transport domestic goods from the northern to southern region.

In the first phase, the company will use a 600 TEU liner (one TEU is equivalent to a 20 foot container) with about 10 hours for unloading goods.

Nguyen Duy Ngoc, director of Gemadept DungQuat port, said the port was put into operation in 2009 with a wharf 160 metres in length and a 100,000sq.m warehouse capable of storing 6,000 containers.

As the third Gemadept Corporation port following the ones in Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong, DungQuat is one of the largest ports in the central region and able to receive 30,000 DWT (deadweight tonnage) vessels and handle goods with a capacity of 150,000 TEUs per year./.
