“Cow bank” joins hands for needy people

people in 28 poor and border districts in two years was held in Hanoi on
July 13.

Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) which aims to provide 10,000 cows for needy
people in 28 poor and border districts in two years was held in Hanoi on
July 13.
The programme, which was broadcast live, saw the presence of President Truong Tan Sang, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh, representatives from state agencies, international organisations, among others.
Addressing the event, Deputy PM Ninh praised the contributions of organisations and individuals to “Cow bank” project, adding that despite economic difficulties, Vietnam has so far attained many achievements in the cause of poverty reduction.
He called on enterprises, organisations and individuals, in and out of the country for more supports for the “Cow bank” project which is jointly carried out by the VRC, the Border Guard High Command and the Vietnam Television (VTV).
Under the project, the three above-mentioned agencies will work together to encourage the public to donate 10,000 cows worth about 100 billion VND for the poor in 2013 and 2014.
Three months after its launching, the project has received financial commitments of nearly 110 billion VND, equivalent to 11.000 productive cows from organisations and individuals, both domestically and internationally.
Since 2010, the ‘Cow bank’ project has provided 7,028 cows for poor households in 111 districts in 39 provinces nationwide.-VNA
