Cuban President Raul Castro has announced that his country was ready to normalise its relations with the US on the foundation of equality and non-imposition.

While farewelling former US President Jimmy Carter at Jose Marti international airport on March 30, President Raul Castro said Carter was helping both countries to settle common issues.

The Cuban leader said the results the former US politician achieved was encouraging, saying that the visit was to explore Cuba ’s economic policy and discuss measures to improve bilateral ties.

This was the second time Jimmy Carter has visited Cuba . In the previous visit in May 2002, the former US President met Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro and delivered speech at Havana University .

Carter was the highest-ranked US politician to visit Cuba since the successful Cuban revolution in 1959./.
