The Central Highlands province of Dak Lak has culled a flock of 1,300 ducks found to be positive to the H5N1 virus to prevent the bird flu from spreading.

The infected poultry, which had not yet been vaccinated, were raised by the family of Phung Minh Chanh in Buon Trap town, Krong Ana district.

Provincial authorities have zoned off the farming area and applied disinfection measures at the site as well as in neighbouring farms.

Localities across Vietnam are taking drastic measures against the bird flu.

Vietnam has yet recorded any cases of the H7N9 virus of the bird flu.

The virus is affecting a number of localities in the neighbouring country of China, where a total of 104 H7N9 cases have been reported, including 21 fatalities.-VNA
