Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - The closing ceremony of the 2017 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 2017) will be held on August 30, one day earlier than planned.

Minister of Youth and Sports Khairy Jamaluddin of Malaysia, the host of the biggest regional event, made the statement at a press conference on April 12.

He said the initial date, August 31, is the eve of the key holiday for Muslims – Hari Raya Haji.

He affirmed that the change will not affect the overall schedule of the sport event.

There will be some changes made to the reschedule of some sport events, but all events will finish by August 30, the Minister added.

SEA Games 2017 will take place from August 19 – 30 in Malaysia with the participation of 11 Southeast Asian countries. It is the sixth time Malaysia has hosted the biennial games.-VNA
