The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held a seminar in Hanoi on August 25 to review the second phase of a Danish-funded programme to support the fisheries sector.

The second phase of the programme has received 38 million USD in non-refundable aid from the Danish Government.

The programme has been carried out since 2006 and will run until 2010 in Son La and Quang Ninh provinces in the north; Nghe An, Thua Thien Hue and Binh Dinh provinces in the central region; Dac Lac in the Central Highlands region; and Ben Tre, Ca Mau and An Giang in the south.

The programme aims to assist poor households in taking part in aquaculture and seeking outlets, improve working conditions for aquaculture farmers, solve environmental problems, and manage the quality of seafood./.
