Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on January 11 presented gifts to disadvantaged families in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue to celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.

The Deputy PM handed over 230 gifts worth 230 million VND (10,810 USD) and an aid package costing 1.6 billion VND (75,200 USD) to help build houses for poor households and social beneficiaries, Agent Orange/dioxin and flood victims in Phu Loc and Quang Dien districts.

He praised efforts made by the local Party Committee, authorities and people in preventing and overcoming disasters, affirming that the Party and State always pay special attention to assisting needy people in the province.

Deputy PM Phuc asked the local authorities to continue supporting their people in promoting economic development and well implementing policies on social welfare.

He also urged local people to better themselves, thus contributing to reducing the number of poor families in the locality.-VNA
