Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan had a meeting with Li Jiheng, Governor of Yunnan province, on June 2 as part of his working visit to China.

Deputy PM Nhan expressed his pleasure at the development of the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, benefiting both peoples particularly, after the China visit in October 2011 by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the Vietnam visit in December 2011 by Vice President Xi Jinping.

In this context, Relations between localities of Vietnam and China , particularly Yunnan province are also growing. Two-way trade between Vietnam and Yunnan rose 27.7 percent in 2011 to 1.21 billion USD. The number of visitors between the two countries reached about 250,000.
Deputy PM Nhan proposed increasing contacts between leaders of Vietnamese provinces and Yunnan province to discuss measures to boost bilateral cooperation.

He also called for enhanced cooperation in economics, trade and investment, especially investment in transport infrastructure, and science-technology, sports, culture, tourism, education and training.
Border provinces of both countries should coordinate to well implement three documents relating to land border and effectively fight cross-border crimes, helping maintain order and security in the two countries’ border areas.

Yunnan Governor Li briefed Deputy PM Nhan on his province’s general situation, in which he stressed potential for cooperation between the two sides in economics, trade, education-training, culture, sports and mining.

He said that the two sides should increase exchanges and hold more trade, investment promotion activities, with a view to expanding and further promoting the China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.-VNA
