The capital city of Hanoi is endeavouring to support people with disabilities by offering them easier access to public facilities.

The effort is part of a municipal master plan on assisting disabled people in the next five years.

Support given to people through vocational training, job generation and healthcare are also components of the plan.

According to the capital’s People’s Committee, newly-built public facilities and buildings have paid heed to the requirements of the disabled by including elevator systems and ramps to make access easier for wheelchair users.

The city will also continue issuing free cards for those who need to travel by bus. During the 2009-2013 period, the city granted an additional 5,936 free bus cards, raising the total to nearly 20,000.-VNA
