Tra Vinh (VNA) – As many as 4,000 households hit by drought and saline intrusion in the southern province of Tra Vinh have received financial assistance worth 500,000 VND (22.7 USD) each.

The aid is sourced from the Relief Fund of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee and the VFF’s Hanoi chapter.

Le Van Han, Chairman of the VFF’s Tra Vinh chapter, said the support aims to relieve affected households by helping them buy necessities during the disaster.

Nearly 41,000 households have lost over 29,000ha of rice, while more than 1,500 others have lost about 700ha of vegetables and 567ha of fruit in Cau Ke and Tra Cu districts.

Around 181ha of fisheries has also suffered.

The total farming loss is estimated at roughly 1.1 trillion VND (50 million USD).

Among 19,000 households in need of water, close to 10,000 in the communes of Phuong Thanh, Dai Phuoc, Dai Phuc, Nhi Long, Nhi Long Phu and Duc My (Cang Long district) and Long Duc commune (Tra Vinh city) face serious water shortage.-VNA
