A series of high-grade products pinned with the Viet Tien, Garment 10 and An Phuoc trademarks for export are now being showcased at stores in the Vinatex chain to lure domestic buyers.

The Viet Tien Company has hired out the entire first floor, thousands of sq.m. large, of the Vinatex outlet at No. 25 Ba Trieu street , Hanoi , to display its products.

Staff said the products are attractive to domestic customers due to their diverse designs, good materials and reasonable prices.

The company has launched a new line of office fashions targeting middle- aged buyers, “San Sciaro”, and another for younger office workers, “Manhattan”, following up on the success of their other office fashion lines, Smart Casual, Vee Sendy and TT-up.

The Garment 10 Company plans to build a number of shops to sell its products next year to expand its domestic market. It has also invested in new designs and special materials for different products, focusing on public employees and workers.

The Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) President, Le Quoc An, said Vietnamese products are of high quality but they would be hard-pressed to compete with imports if customers are not given the chance to compare them in terms of quality and price.

VITAS has also completed a project on research into Vietnamese body types in order to provide basic figures for enterprises to produce goods suitable for the market.

Although domestic apparel and textile revenues reached some 4.5 billion USD a year, products made-in-Vietnam have met just 20 percent of the market and left the rest to imports, mostly from China and Thailand, said experts.

In regard to international markets, although Vietnam has been recognised as one of the world’s major garment exporters, with revenues in the tens of billions of USD a year, domestic enterprises remain mostly sub-contractors for larger foreign companies./.
