The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has proposed unconditional dialogue with the Republic of Korea (RoK) as soon as possible.

The Chinese news agency Xinhua quoted the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Jan. 5 as saying that the DPRK issued a statement proposing dialogue with Seoul authorities on the way to demolish misunderstanding and distrust as well as achieve peace and prosperity.

The statement clearly indicated that confrontation could not solve the problem between the two Koreas but would lead to military conflict and war, adding that only dialogue and negotiation could break the predicament.

No matter what they did in the past, the DPRK would like to meet them anywhere and any time to discuss all issues, including the tension, peace, reconciliation and unification in the dialogue, the statement said.

The same day, Rodong Sinmun, an official newspaper of the Workers’ Party of the DPRK called on the RoK authorities to end confrontation and war against the DPRK, opening a landmark phase of independent reunification.

Earlier on Jan. 4, the newspaper reported that the DPRK was willing to improve and normalise relations with hostile countries as long as they stop hostile policies and respect sovereignty of the DPRK./.
