Hoa Binh (VNA) - The People’s Court of the northern province of Hoa Binh sentenced two people for illegally transporting heroin.

Mua A Dua, 35, who comes from Pa Co commune, Mai Chau district of the province, received the death penalty while Giang A Xa, 52, from Son La province was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

According to the indictment, in December 2013, Dua was hired by a man whose identity remains unknown, to transport 26 cakes of heroin from Pa Co commune to My Dinh Station in Hanoi for a charge of 30 million VND (1,330 USD).

Dua asked Xa to help him by going ahead to see whether the police were looking to arrest Dua. Dua paid Xa 7 million VND (310 USD).

However, the two were arrested red-handed with 26 cakes of heroin and other items when they were travelling in Cao Phong town, Hoa Binh province.

Dua confessed that he had illegally purchased one cake of heroin in October 2013 with his uncle who was arrested by Son La Police.

In 2005, Dua was sentenced to 10 years in prison for illegally purchasing heroin and was given special amnesty in August 2010.-VNA
