The authorities and people of northern and central localities are making great efforts to overcome the aftermaths of Bebinca, the second tropical storm of the year.

According to the National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control, by the afternoon of June 24, the storm caused damages worth hundreds of billions of dong for Hai Phong city, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Quang Ninh , Nghe An and Ha Tinh.

Especially, in central Nghe An province, a woman and her child are missing in floods resulted from the storm.

In Hai Phong city, a 3-tonne ship was wrecked after it struck against an oil tanker in Cat Ba Bay while a lorry carrying materials serving storm prevention was upturned in the island district of Bach Long Vy.

In the five provinces, more than 9,000 hectares of rice and 900 hectares of other crops were flooded while about 2,800 hectares and 450 aquatic ponds suffered great losses.

In Nam Dinh alone, total losses are estimated at around 150 billion VND (7.5 million USD).

Thai Binh leaders have toured hardest-hit areas to see losses and inspect the implementation of measures to surmount the storm consequences.

As heavy rains are forecast to continue falling, the authorities of the localities are taking measures to cope with post-storm flooding.-VNA
