The successful Vietnam Provincial Environmental Governance (VPEG) project is the hallmark of the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Canada (1973-2013).

The statement was made by Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Deborah Chatsis at a conference held in Hanoi on June 13 to assess the outcomes of the VPEG project.

Chatsis stressed that Canada and Vietnam have developed environmental cooperation since 1995. At that time, Canada was one of the first donors to Vietnam through the Vietnam-Canada Environment Project, which aims to support the implementation of environmental protection laws, and the enhancement of Vietnam’s environmental management capacity.

The VPEG project has been implemented in Hanoi, Da Nang, Binh Duong, Bac Ninh, Long An, Hai Duong, Quang Ngai and Soc Trang from 2008-2013 under an agreement of the two Governments.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) Bui Cach Tuyen said the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) provided financially and technically support to the project worth a total of 15 million CAD.-VNA
