The European Union (EU) and Japan have agreed to provide Cambodia with development assistance in a wide range of fields from education to agriculture and finance.

Agreements to this effect were signed on June 20 in the capital of Phnom Penh between the Cambodian side and its EU and Japanese partners.

Under the deal with the EU, Cambodia will receive a 26-million-USD aid package to promote its comprehensive and sustainable development in agriculture, seafood, and breeding.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Economy and Finance Keat Chhon said that EU’s support has significantly contributed to the efforts by the Government of Cambodia in reforming and developing agricultural sector.

Also on the same day, Keat Chhon and Head Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Cambodia Hiroshi Izaki signed an agreement on the provision of 36 million USD for clean water and human resources development projects in Cambodia .

According to Cambodian Ministry of Economy and Finance, the EU has pledged to grant 634 million USD for development projects in Cambodia since 2000, while Japan has provided the country with 2.265 billion USD for development projects, including preferential loans worth 182 million USD.-VNA
