The European Union (EU) has signed an agreement on the implementation of the European Development Cooperation Strategy for Cambodia for 2014-2020, providing 460 million USD in financial assistance.

The agreement was signed between Keat Chhon, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and first Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and Jean Francois Cautain, EU ambassador to Cambodia, said the Cambodian Government’s press release.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen witnessed the signing of the agreement.

According to the agreement, the donor doubles the amount provided during 2007-2013, reflecting the EU’s commitment to Cambodia.
The assistance covers three priority sectors, including agriculture and natural resource management; education, vocational training and skills; and governance and administration.

To date, the EU has provided 1.28 billion USD in official development assistance (ODA) to Cambodia. Combined with funding from individual EU member states, ODA reached 3.7 billion USD, accounting for 20 percent of the total ODA provided to Cambodia.-VNA
