Vientiane (VNA) – The European Union (EU) has upgraded its Delegation to Laos to a fully-fledged diplomatic mission in recognition of the growing relationship between the two sides.

Speaking to media after presenting his credentials to the Lao President on September 27, new EU Ambassador to Laos Leo Faber said the bloc and its member states had long been engaged in development cooperation with the Southeast Asian country, and would continue to do so in order to achieve development that was sustainable and equitable.

He stressed that the EU would maintain regular and constructive dialogues on political, economic and social issues with the Lao government and hoped the two sides would strengthen their ties.

The union lauded efforts of Laos in successfully hosting the recent ASEAN summits and related meeting and appreciated the way Laos negotiated with other countries, he added.
