The concrete roof of a shoe factory in western Cambodia suddenly collapsed on the morning of May 16, killing at least three workers and injuring six others.

The incident occurred at around 7 a.m. at the Taiwanese-owned Wing Star Shoes Factory, located in Kampong Speu province, about 40 kilometers west of Phnom Penh , while the workers were at the site.

More than 100 people were reported to be still trapped inside the pile of rubble. At present, rescue and clean-up activities are underway.

The factory's owner was being questioned by police. Initial investigations showed that technical error in building construction and factory owner's neglect were blamed for the incident.-VNA
