HCM City (VNA) – A workshop is underway in Ho Chi Minh City to collect feedback from local authorities, experts and businesses in southern Vietnam on a circular guiding the implementation of the amended Law on compulsory social insurance.

The two-day workshop, organised by the Ministry of Labours, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) and International Labour Organisation (ILO), opened on December 14.

According to head of the MoLISA’s Social Insurance Department Tran Thi Thuy Nga, the amended Social Insurance Law was adopted at the 8 th session of the 13th National Assembly and will become effective from January 1, 2016.

Speaking at the event, attendees shared a common opinion that people granted a leave by their employers to pursue education abroad will be allowed to obtain voluntary social insurance during the studying time.

They also agreed that those with employment injury or occupational disease who are on their statutory leave should not be entitled to medical allowance as they still get salary payments during the leave.

Additionally, other issues regarding allowances for long-time sick leave and maternity leave were debated.

The amended Social Insurance on mandatory social insurance comprises five chapters and 38 articles, dealing with issues pertaining to social security.-VNA
