HCM City (VNA) - The Aviation Airport Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) is collecting feedback from the local community in HCM City regarding the architectural plan of  Long Thanh International Airport’s passenger terminal from January 12 to 23, 2017.

“The Government had appointed the ACV to be the investor for the passenger terminal. We are establishing the feasibility research for the first phase of the Long Thanh International Airport’s passenger terminal,” Dao Viet Dung, deputy general director of the ACV was quoted as saying by the government website.

The ACV had already organised a contest for the architectural plan of the Long Thanh International Airport’s passenger terminal. There were 16 international and domestic companies taking part in the contest with nine plans.

The contest aimed to choose the most beautiful and feasible design that meets all required functions, as well as representing the special characteristics of the construction.

The most impressive plans included images of palm branches and water coconut – familiar images of the South’s culture - along with a bamboo roof – a Vietnamese symbol - for the public spaces of the Long Thanh International Airport’s passenger terminal.

The collection of suggestions from the local community about architectural plan of the Long Thanh International Airport’s passenger terminal was held in Hanoi from November 28 to December 12, 2016, in the central city of Da Nang from December 16 – 25 and in the southern province of Dong Nai from December 28, 2016 to January 11, 2017.

The Long Thanh International Airport project was divided into three stages. At the first stage, a runway and one passenger terminal along other supported works will be built to serve 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo each year. The first phase will be finished by 2025.

At the second stage, one more runway and another passenger terminal will be constructed to serve 50 million passengers and 1.5 million tonnes of cargo a year. After the third phase, the airport will serve 100 million passengers and 5 million tonnes of cargo each year.-VNA
