Fiji is seeking Indonesia ’s support to obtain the observer status of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the coming time.

The Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama made the request at a meeting with the Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in the framework of his visit to Indonesia from April 4-6.

He hoped that Indonesia , as ASEAN Chair in 2011 will give support to Fiji to become an observer of the organisation.

In relying , the Indonesian President promised to convey Fiji ’s proposal to other ASEAN leaders.

Indonesia and Fiji established diplomatic relations in 1974./.
