Finnish Ambassador to Vietnam Pekka Hyvonen has announced that the embassy’s Fund for Local Cooperation will provide 160,285 EUR for a project to enhance climate change adaptation capacity in the Mekong delta.

An agreement to this effect was signed in Ho Chi Minh City on August 4 between the Embassy of Finland and the Center for Cooperation Human Resource Development (C&D).

The project will help increase the capacity and activeness of non-governmental organisations in southern provinces, especially in the Mekong Delta, in supporting the local communities in Ben Tre and Tra Vinh provinces to adapt to climate change for sustainable development.

The project will be carried out in two years, starting from August this year. It is expected to benefit 3,000 local people.

The Mekong delta is one of the three deltas in the globe to be most vulnerable to climate change, especially sea level rise./.
