Asia’s largest low-cost airline AirAsia officially launched a direct flight route between the Indonesian capital of Jakarta and Ho Chi Minh City on October 9.

With the decision, Indonesia AirAsia – an associate carrier of the Malaysia-based AirAsia – now becomes the first airline to provide a direct flight between the two destinations.

It will conduct four flights between Jakarta and Ho Chi Minh City every week with an expected average occupancy of 75-85 percent.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, PT Indonesia AirAsia CEO Dharmadi said Indonesia AirAsia hopes to help stimulate tourism demand and the economies of Indonesia and Vietnam through the new low-fare route.

The launch of the new route also marks the first flight for Indonesia AirAsia heading towards Vietnam . AirAsia Berhad and Thai AirAsia already fly to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City .

Vice Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, La Quoc Khanh, highly appreciated the opening of the new route, saying that it will usher in more opportunities for closer strategic cooperation in socio-economy, culture and tourism between the two countries./.
