Visitors purchased 6,000 tours and 8,000 low-price air tickets during four days at the first Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM) which closed in Hanoi on April 21.

The event themed “Exploring the Red River Delta – The origin of Vietnamese culture” was held in response to the National Tourism Year of the Red River Delta-Hai Phong 2013.

According to Vice President of the Vietnam Tourism Association Vu The Binh, who is also head of VITM organising board, the warm response came as a surprise for both the organisers and participating companies.

A total of 40,000 visitors came to the event, which featured 368 stalls including 101 operated by foreign companies.

As many as 1,200 businesses attended the event to seek business and cooperation opportunity.

The event will be held annually in April in Hanoi to promote the sustainable development of the national tourism industry.-VNA
