Flash floods and landslides occurring in Southwestern and Eastern China last weekend left 29 dead and missing, injured dozens others, and seriously damaged the country’ s transport infrastructure.

Sichuan province was the hardest flood-hit locality in China with 22 deaths and seven missing.

The downpour hit Miyi County for about 20 hours starting on the evening of July 26, damaging nearly 100 houses and over 500 ha of farmland.

In southwest China 's Guizhou Province , torrential rains starting on the morning of July 26 destroyed dozens houses and damaged more than 5 km of highways. Landslides in Guiyang City blocked roads to nearby cities.

About 17,500 people were evacuated as of July 27 after heavy rains swept eastern Jiangxi Province for four days. More than 120 houses collapsed and 17,000 ha of farmland were damaged.

Direct economic losses were estimated at 225 million yuan (33 million USD).
