A centre providing consultations on marriage with foreigners opened in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho , on January 10.

Located at No 14, Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street in Ninh Kieu district, the centre, the first of its kind in the Mekong Delta, will give consultations on activities relating to marriage with foreigners and help Vietnamese residents and foreigners study each other’s individual and family circumstances if required.

The centre, directly run by the Can Tho Women’s Union , will also guide concerned parties to conduct marriage procedures under Vietnamese law and provide legal assistance for women in Can Tho and other provinces in the region.

The centre’s director, Huynh Thanh Thao, affirmed that the non-profit centre would protect the legitimate interests of women in Can Tho in particular and the region in general, as well as prevent illegal marriage brokerage activities that have a bad effect on local security and order and disadvantage women.

In 2011, the centre will coordinate with the Republic of Korea (RoK) Representative Office to implement programmes supporting Vietnamese women who get married to RoK residents in Can Tho city and hold a seminar on the reality of women’s marriages with foreigners in the city.

The two sides will provide capital and vocational training for two groups of people, including Can Tho brides who return from failed marriages in the RoK and women who are going to marry RoK residents.

They will also equip Vietnamese brides in foreign marriages with basic knowledge and living skills./.
