Hanoi (VNA) – Martin Forkel has been invited to Vietnam to work as a fitness coach for the national U16 and U19 squads.

The 37-year-old has signed a six-month contract with the Vietnam Football Federation. The German coach is a former defender who played in the national squad at the FIFA World Youth Championship in 1999, and made six appearances for the U21 team that year.

He retired in 2015, but has taken part in coaching courses since 2010 and now owns the A certificate granted by FIFA.

He worked for Saarbruecken FC in Germany before coming to Vietnam.

Forkel will start working with the U16 team in the continental tournament in September.

The next task is with the U19 team, who will compete in the Asian Championship in October, and the national team at the ASEAN Championship in November.-VNA
