A forum focusing on how to improve the quality and added value of Vietnam ’s agricultural products was held in Hanoi on November 12.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh highlighted food safety and farm produce quality as key solutions to sustainable agricultural growth and development, adding that the State will continue its support for localities in this field.

He said that the forum aims at seeking measures to expand markets, ensure the interests of producers and consumers, and increase the added value and competitiveness of Vietnamese farm products.

It is essential to build product appraisal and market management processes through strengthening the State management in the field, while focusing on developing suitable supply chains to bring more safe products to consumers, said participants.

They also proposed policies to call for social involvement in food hygiene and safety as well as support mechanisms for farmers, enterprises and consumers, thus developing the country’s agricultural sector further in the future.

Measures to forge links in producing and trading farm products, and those to raise public awareness of food safety and their rights were discussed at the forum.-VNA
