A forum aimed at promoting investment in the Nghi Son Economic Zone (NSEZ) and its surrounding areas will be held in the central province of Thanh Hoa from October 23-24.

The news was released at a press conference jointly held by the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) and the provincial People’s Committee in Hanoi on October 8.

MPI Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Trung said the forum will coincide with a ceremony to start construction of the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex (NSRP), which plays an important role in the socio-economic development strategy of Thanh Hoa in particular and Vietnam in general.

The 9 billion USD project is expected to create a breakthrough in the province’s FDI attraction and make positive spillover effects on other key projects of the neighbouring areas, he added.

According to Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Trinh Van Chien, the forum will introduce the province’s socio-economic development, land use and human resources development plans by 2020 as well as its policies to call for investment.

The potential and advantages of the NSEZ and industrial parks in the province will be also revealed, he said, adding that the event is expected to see the signing of cooperation agreements between the local authorities and investors, with an estimated registered investment of about 4 billion USD.-VNA
