The German media has run a number of articles highlighting Vietnam’s successful organisation of the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s 132nd Assembly (IPU-132) in Hanoi.

Finanzen financial newspaper praised Vietnam’s preparation for the important political event.

It quoted IPU President Saber Choudhury as saying Vietnam has taken the opportunity as host of the IPU-132 to demonstrate the country’s hospitality and growing development as well as to promote its history and culture to international friends.

The newspaper confirmed the event was a successful step in implementing Vietnam’s international integration policy.

The media – Pressportal, Finanzen and Nachrichten – mentioned the event’s outcomes, especially the Assembly’s adoption of the Hanoi Declaration which highlighted the role played by IPU member parliaments in protecting common interests and maintaining prosperity around the world.

With over 70 conferences and meetings, IPU member parliaments represented their commitments to achieving global sustainable development goals, stressed the press agencies.

Taking place from March 28 to April 1 in Hanoi, IPU-132 brought together parliamentarians from 127 IPU member parliaments.

The IPU-132 agenda focused on “Sustainable Development Goals: Turning words into action” with a vision to bring commitments to life in water resources, cyber security and international law – critical issues impacting the world as it enters a new post-2015 growth period.

Parliamentarians reaffirmed the vision of a people-centred sustainable development agenda based on the realisation of universal human rights, eradicating poverty and eliminating inequalities, thus empowering individuals to reach their full potential.

Commenting on Vietnam’s contributions to the successful IPU-132 in his speech at the closing ceremony of the event, Chowdhury stated that Vietnam played an important role in the agenda, preparations, session discussions and sideline events.-VNA
