The Central Highlands province of Gia Lai has repatriated a total of 1,061 sets of remains of Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts from Cambodia during the 2001-2011 period.

The figure was released at a May 14 meeting to review 10 years of the search for remains of Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts who laid down their lives during the war in Cambodia .

Of the remains, 41 sets were identified by name, the meeting said.

During the ten-year period, search teams in Gia Lai province have completed a large volume of work thanks to the close instruction of relevant domestic agencies and the wholehearted assistance of authorities as well as people in Cambodian provinces of Ratanakiri, Stung Treng and Preah Vihear.

The meeting drew out experience in searching for and repatriating fallen soldiers towards the target of bringing home 100 percent of fallen soldiers’ remains in Cambodia as soon as possible.

The province said some 800 sets of remains of Vietnamese martyrs, who died during the anti-US war are yet to be found in Ratanakiri, Stung Treng and Preah Vihear provinces./.
