Hanoi CPI up 2.47 percent in September

Hanoi consumer price index (CPI) in September rose 2.47 percent against the previous month, according to the municipal Statistics Office.

The figure represents a 5.4 percent increase from the last month of 2011 and a 6.49 percent rise compared to the same period last year.

Out of the 11 baskets of commodities measured, only post and telecommunications services remain unchanged.

The biggest price hike was seen in education services with 34.06 percent due to the rise of tuition fees at State-owned schools and private kindergartens.

It was followed by transportation services and housing, electricity, fuel and construction materials.

According to experts, the monthly average CPI rise of Hanoi was 0.59 percent since the beginning of this year. The increase of the index in September is the highest since April last year.

During the month, the price of gold inched up 4.76 percent while that of US dollar was up 0.03 percent against August.-VNA
