The People’s Council of Hanoi met on March 22, emphasising upcoming elections for the National Assembly and People’s Council of the 2011-16 tenure as the key task of the entire political system.

Pham Quang Nghi, Party Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, called for greater efforts to be made to control inflation, stabilise the macro-economy and ensure social security after highlighting that 2011 is the first year to realise the resolution of the Party Congress, the year of legislative and people’s council elections.

The outgoing tenure, from 2004-2011, has extended two years more than law has decided, dealing with Hanoi expansion, which has merged the entire neighbouring Ha Tay province, four villages of the northern mountainous province of Hoa Binh and Me Linh district of Vinh Phuc province with the capital city.

The tenure was marked with the Thang Long-Hanoi millennium celebrations.

Hanoi economy grew by 10.4 percent annually in the outgoing tenure./.
