Hanoi (VNA) – The new People’s Council of Hanoi (15th tenure) convened the first session on June 14 to elect key officials who will lead the capital city from now to 2021.

Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc was re-elected as Chairwoman of the municipal People’s Council while Nguyen Duc Chung will continue as Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee for the 2016 – 2021 tenure.

Other positions in the council, the committee and the municipal People’s Court were also elected.

The 105 deputies to the 15th municipal People’s Council were chosen at the general election on May 22.

Speaking at the session, Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai said the tasks that the new People’s Council has to fulfill are very heavy, including how to successfully implement the resolution of the 16th congress of the city’s Party organisation.

The People’s Council must strive to perform well right from the beginning of the new tenure.

Meanwhile, the People’s Committee should be determined to address obstacles to development such as in investment and the business climate, administrative procedures, the provincial competitiveness index, and the public’s satisfaction with administrative agencies’ services, he added.-VNA
